Thoughts On: The Oculus Rift

Recently I went to Buffalo Comic Con and I was graced with the opportunity to use the much talked about Oculus Rift. It was quite an experience and it’s made me seriously consider buying it. Before using the Rift, I had imagined I would know what it’d be like to use the Oculus Rift, I’ve heard what other’s have said about it. I’ve seen countless videos of people using the system, but I really had to try it myself. I’ll have you know, it was amazing.
Surprisingly, it was very easy for me to get used to the controls. You look where you want to go and move (See? Super simple). And, although I didn’t get light headed I can see why people would. Especially when you’re falling in the game. It’s a very weird feeling to be moving around and not feel the complimentary forces you’d feel in the real world (Try putting that into VR).
Now, as cool as the Oculus Rift is, I think right now it’s more of a novelty system. I easily prefer a flat screen still. There’s too much head gear, not a ton of mobility when sitting down, and it’s pretty odd transitioning from the game world back to the real world, taking off the headset and all. I still would love to have an Oculus Rift of my own but it would probably gather a little bit of dust. There’s also not a lot of support for the device, unfortunately, and the games that do have Rift support often get a little buggy when updates come out.
Overall, it’s awesome! People need to try it at least once in their lives, and companies should totally continue development on the Oculus Rift! It has SOOOO much potential!
