Indie Opinions
(Corey's Indie Showcase)

I’ve been on the EagleIsland team now for a short while and a pattern has already formed in my video game choices: indie games (I like ‘em, they’re pretty cool). It may be that I like supporting the little guys in the game development industry, or that I fit in a similar boat being a freelance filmmaker. But, either way there is a majesty knowing that such a wonderful game was made by a small, talented group of people.
When a team [any indie organization] has the freedom to do whatever they want with a game it leads to awesome content that feels wholly unrestricted. They can give it any story, any character, any genera without having to ask, “Will this be suitable for our audience?” Because, often times they don’t get their audience until after they release the game!
Now, if you don’t know, indie games are very often 2D side scrollers with a simple or pixelated design. They tend to feel very retro, and it creates a nostalgic feel that reminds me of a time in my childhood. Not a specific moment but an overall feeling when I’d play video games with my friends or brothers.
Unfortunately, because young companies and small teams make these games, bugs can be a huge problem. Bugs can decide whether a game is hit or miss when it enters the market, and while some patches can usually fix the problem, the world ultimately decides if a game sells or not. Putting bugs aside though, I love the indie gaming experience.
There’s really not much more I can say than: “I like video games, they’re good, pretty sweet, yeah. And the games I like a lot happen to be indie titles.” So, all of you can rest easy knowing there will be a lot more indie reviews in the future!
