We've known for a while that a huge content update was heading to Splatoon in August, and we finally have new information regarding what is coming. The biggest feature is the addition of new matchmaking options. These include "Squad Battle", where friends can play Ranked Battles together, and "Private Battle", where friends can make custom matches with just themselves. The second mode is incredible flexible, allowing anywhere between 2-8 players to play on any stage, in any mode, with varying team sizes.
On top of this, the games level caps will be raised. Regular Battle's maximum level will increase from 20 to 50, while Ranked Battle now includes the S and S+ Rankings.
Lastly, the game will be updated with a host of new weapons and gear. For weapons, two brand new weapon classes, the "Slosher", a bucket-like weapon that throws ink straight ahead, and the "Splatling", which is a gatling-gun style weapon that charges up. Both of these new types will be represented with several new weapons. There will also be over 40 new pieces of gear to equip
All of this will be added on August 5th (6th in Europe), and Nintendo promises that more content is on the way, most notably the Rainmaker Ranked Battle, plus more maps and weapons.
