2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Pokemon in Japan, so the Pokemon company just announced several plans throughout the year to celebrate this milestone.
Mythical Events - Every Month in 2016, starting in February, a mythical Pokemon will be distributed. The Pokemon distributed, in the order of release, are Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect. All of these Pokemon will be released through the Nintendo Network or Gamestop events.
3DS Bundles - Several bundles for 3DS systems are also planned. A New Nintendo 3DS bundle with Pokemon Red and Blue faceplates, as well as Red and Blue preinstalled, is planned to arrive on the same day that the Pokemon Virtual Console games release, February 27th. Europe will also be getting special 2DS systems for Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow.
TCG Expansion- A new TCG Expansion, known as "Generations" will be released to comemorate the anniversary. Another expansion, "Mythical Pokemon Collections" will also be released, with a different Promo Card for each Month.
Pokemon Movies - The first three Pokemon movies will be digitally remastered and released on iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, and Google Play
Nendoroid - A new Pokemon Nendaroid will be released, being a champion version of Red. This package comes with the already released Red figure, as well as Charizard, Venusaur, and Blastoise figures. This will be available exculusively at PokemonCenter.com
Additional Merch - There will also be tons of merch with the 20th anniversary branding coming to PokemonCenter.com. This includes Playing Cards, Hats, Mugs, and Lanyards.
Games - The video also mentioned the release of Pokemon Go and Pokken Tournament coming this year.
SuperBowl Ad - Not stated in the video, the PR stated that a Superbowl ad is planned to air during the game on February 7th. All that we know is that it "will encourage fans to train on".
